On Twitter, The New Yorker writer and interviewer Isaac Chotiner has become something of an enduring meme, now notorious for his interviews in which public figures (most recently, legal scholar Cass Sunstein) appear to step willfully into rhetorical traps and make utter fools of themselves. His latest victim subject is former Biden Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, whose new book Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines details her reasoning for leaving the Democratic Party on the grounds of the party’s disloyalty to President Biden.
