A fun or infuriating moment from this week, depending on your perspective: at the funeral for Jimmy Carter, all of our former, current, soon-to-be and almost Presidents gathered to pay their respects to our 39th President. Surprisingly, even bitter ex-opponents shared a few laughs amongst each other.
Is the video of President Obama laughing with President-elect Trump – a man who rode his racist conspiracy about Obama’s birth all the way to the White House – a dispiriting illustration of the political elitism that aligns the powerful against all others. Is it a heartwarming display of our leaders placing their shared humanity above politics? Possibly both!
