Well, that didn’t take long. Eight days after President-elect Trump announced his nomination of Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, Gaetz announced his withdrawal from consideration.

His tweet came just 45 minutes after CNN called him to inform him it would be publishing a story about a second sexual encounter with a 17-year-old in 2017. He later confirmed he would not return to Congress in January, despite his election earlier this month.

I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.

I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.

Original tweet is from June 2020.

Anthony Scaramucci’s whole bit can be a bit tired this many years later but I’ll let him have this one.

It’s always good to see one of VC’s most prominent Trump supporters David Sacks have a bad day.

One Democrat not celebrating the news was Senator John Fetterman, for.. reasons? Literally, what does this tweet even mean?

In some respects, this episode indicates the second Trump era may end up resembling the first one more than originally anticipated.

One thing nobody should do is have any sort of digital transaction with Matt Gaetz:

In Gaetz’s place, Trump nominated longtime supporter and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Much has been made about the success of Trump’s “Kamala’s for they/them” ad in the wake of the election, and Representative Nancy Mace from South Carolina has wasted no time exploiting this cultural moment for personal gain.

This week she introduced a resolution that would ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms in the U.S. Capitol, a move just about everybody assumes is in response to Delaware electing the country’s first ever transgender representative, Sarah McBride. And boy did she have something to say about it online.

People were quick to point out her naked hypocrisy on the issue of LGBTQ+ rights.

Sarah McBride, for her part, took the high road in a simple statement reaffirming her commitment to her constituents.

Democrats, and even some Republicans, rallied around McBride to demonstrate their support.

Either Jay Leno is the world’s clumsiest man, or there’s something else going on.

Or maybe it’s nothing!

Our long national nightmare is finally over: Wicked is out in theaters, and the most deranged press tour perhaps in movie history is coming to a close. But not without a last (?) hyper viral video.

What I like about this video is that people responded with pretty much every meme format from the last 5 years.

Know Your Meme

Oh, Wicked press tour. I will almost miss you.

On the one hand this is a silly tweet on the other hand I think it maybe explains how we elected Trump a second time? I need the longform piece.
