We all had fun with the “they’re eating the dogs” moment in Tuesday’s debate. But, predictably, the rhetoric against Haitian immigrants stemming from JD Vance has had some very real world consequences, with City Hall and two elementary schools in Springfield, Ohio, evacuated after receiving threats.

Nevertheless, on Friday, JD Vance doubled down on his comments, blaming immigrants for inflation, crime, and public health problems in Springfield.

Donald Trump has also refused to drop the issue, but as on Tuesday his brain is too pickled to be remotely articulate in his bigotry.

Meanwhile, the New York Post continues to cement itself as America’s worst publication:

Even with the Proud Boys (imagining calling yourself a “Proud Boy,” btw) vandalizing Haitian-American owned property, Trump is as recently as Saturday afternoon refusing to denounce the violence.

On Saturday, President Biden issued a strong condemnation of the Trump campaign’s racism towards Haitian immigrants.

Not that it will make any impact at this point, but the woman who authored the initial Facebook post has apologized for posting these baseless claims. Ah! Well. Nevertheless.

For what it’s worth:

Things are getting weird. This is an issue that was bubbling underneath the surface all week but moved to the forefront these last few days. On Tuesday, it was reported that Laura Loomer, a long-time right-wing conspiracy theorist, accompanied Donald Trump to Philadelphia for the debate.

Loomer having any sort of influence on Trump is troublesome enough, and his recent embrace of the conspiracy theories against Haitian-Americans is at least in part attributed to her. But rumors – albeit unsubstantiated – are now flying that the two of them are having an affair, throwing the entire right-wing media ecosystem into a tizzy.

Oh, but it gets even weirder. Apparently Laura Loomer is too racist for Marjorie Taylor-Greene and now the girls are fighting:

Laura Loomer has since deleted the quoted tweet. I don’t remember what it said, but does it even matter?

Okay.

While I don’t normally condone making digs at people’s appearance, I for one will not lose sleep over this line of discourse.

Idk if this is true but in my heart it is.
🙃

This got a bit buried earlier in the week but it’s a good glimpse into the political instincts Biden has honed over the past 50 years, even if he’s no longer as quick on his feet:

Time for the hard pivot. There’s a new baby hippo in Thailand that everybody’s obsessed with.

Not sure what to make of this one.

I’ll end with the apparently regular “today in prompt Twitter” segment:
