In a video introducing keynote speaker Tim Walz, his wife Gwen explained how he went from member of the military to high school teacher and football coach to eventually Governor of Minnesota.

We were then treated to this incredible moment, a parade of Midwestern men Walz once coached to a state football championship:

More than anything Walz said in the speech itself, his family’s reaction and overwhelming pride in him will be remembered well beyond this week:

But he paired the sentimentality with the folksiness for which he is now famous:

Heading into the final night, it seems almost objective fact that this convention is the best for Democrats since at least 2008. That said, it’s not entirely without its controversy, as demonstrated by the internal debate around whether to include a Palestinian-American speaker representing the Uncommitted movement on the agenda. As of now, the DNC has not agreed to that request.

This issue isn’t going away, and even though Kamala Harris seems lightyears ahead of her boss on the Israel/Hamas war, there will be a lot of work to do to make amends with those that feel betrayed by the Biden administration. Fingers crossed she is able to acknowledge the tragedy of this war in the final night of the convention.
