In the men’s basketball gold medal game yesterday, Team USA squared up against France, led by 20-year-old, 7’4″ Victor Wembanyama. Though France put up a good showing, the US won its fifth straight gold, beating out France 98-87.

The team was headed up by a triumvirate of arguably the three greatest players in recent memory, or as Lebron put it:

Steph Curry by all accounts served up the most dramatic moments of the game, scoring four three pointers in just over two minutes:

One gazillin percent worth the watch

LeBron James was named Olympics MVP, an award that can sit alongside his various other NBA, NBA Finals, and NBA All-Star Game MVP awards.

Although KD rightfully is known for being the greatest poster on the team, the internet had to take a moment to acknowledge his contributions to Internet history:

This is the one tbh

In between tweets, Kevin Durant had a few great moments on the court as well:

After the game, he returned to where he belongs: online.

Overall, a tremendous showing from all team members who played…

…and also those who didn’t…

…and those who didn’t make the team but nonetheless contributed to a positive, sportsmanlike affair off the court:

Only the GOATest country in the world could have intra-national beefing backed up by gold medals all around. 🥇🇺🇸 🦅

Very grateful the US pulled off this win so that the copywriter behind this didn’t see it wasted.

Originally, I had set up this segment as an example of American arrogance getting in the way of a gold medal but turns out I was wrong! Poor high jumper Shelby McEwen was slandered.

So, congrats to BOTH jumpers, and thank you Hamish Kerr for this moment:

Speaking of jumpers, I can’t get over Mr. Mondo Duplantis. I know he competed for Sweden but I’m still claiming him as our own.

So, this is a major bummer.

This morning, the IOC ruled that Jordan Chiles must return her floor routine bronze medal. The ruling found that her coach’s initial inquiry into her score, which led to the increase in her score sufficient to earn her the bronze, came four seconds outside the allowed one-minute window.

Goodbye, Olympics. I will miss you.
