One thing seems clear to me and it’s that this first week of the Olympics belongs to the girlies.

Simone Biles took gold in the Women’s All-Around Final because duh. Brazil’s Rebecca Andrade took silver, with USA’s Suni Lee (Tokyo 2020 gold winner) taking bronze.

(How is that possible?)

I’m kind of obsessed with how online this Team USA is:

Nara Smith is the trad wife ASMR TikToker who makes elaborate meals and household items completely from scratch.

Women from around the world are showing up and showing out.

Unfortunately, it wouldn’t be an international celebration of athletic achievement without the worst people making it weird and ruining everybody’s fun.

Italian boxer Angela Carini quit her fight against Algeria’s Imane Khelif after just 46 seconds, and subsequently complained to the press about the strength of Khelif’s punch. I felt silly writing that but that really does seem to be all that happend.

Predictably, the most infamous TERFs decided to make this A Thing.

Other people like Elon Musk and Logan Paul weighed in, prompting an IOC response, but I don’t feel like giving this more oxygen.

Let’s go back to some genuine supporters of women athletes: Flava Flav and Snoop continue their run as Team USA’s unofficial mascots.

Real ones know.

But more importantly:

And an assist from Serena Williams’ husband (and Reddit co-founder) Alexis Ohanian!

The boys can have some medals too, as a treat.

With Great Britain losing in Men’s Doubles to the US, Andy Murray’s tennis career came to an end today.

President Biden: not done yet!

This morning, the US announced a prisoner swap with Russia, resulting in the release of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, journalist Alsu Kurmasheva and activist Vladimir Kara-Murza. Gershkovich had been wrongfully detained since March 2023.

Kudos to Jake, who posted about Evan every single day since November 2023 across all his social media platforms.

VP Kamala Harris is close to picking a vice presidental candidate and it’s getting pretty silly.

Mamma Mia: great movie or greatest ever movie?
